 Beer Braised Brats 

Recipe: Beer Braised Brats

Ingredients

  • 4 tbls butter
  • 1 cup sliced onions
  • 2 12-oz can or bottle dark beer
  • 2 tbls brown sugar
  • 2 tbls vinegar
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 10 uncooked bratwurst links (about 2 1/2 lbs)
  • 10 buns (hoagie, french or other crusty rolls)

Instructions

  1. 1 a 4 quart dutch oven, heat butter over medium heat.
  2. Add onion cook and stir about 5 minutes or until tender and slightly translucent.
  3. Add beer, sugar, vinegar, thyme, and Worcestershire. Bring to a boil, reduce heat.
  4. Place brats in beer mixture and cover. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  5. Using tongs remove brats from cooking liquid and reserve liquid.
  6. Grill brats over medium flame for about 10 minutes until browned.
  7. If necessary place brats in reserved liquid until to keep warm until serving.
  8. Place brats in toasted buns and using a slotted spoon top with onions.
